It was a warm sunny late afternoon as we gathered at Goodwin College for our evening meeting. The group was smaller than normal. I think I counted 17 members plus one guest. Still, a good group. President Kevin rang the bell, and we all sang the Rotary song and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Jack Sayre was put on the spot when he was reminded that he was giving the invocation. He did a great job despite being unprepared, and we all sat down to eat. Dinner was roasted chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans. Salad and bread rounded out the meal, with a dessert tray available also. The food was once again notable for being vastly superior to the food at the Ridge. We will be changing lunchtime caterers as soon as that contract runs out!

President Kevin started the meeting by calling for introduction of guests. George Agnelli introduced his lovely bride, Eleanor. The Welcome song was attempted. It finished stronger than it started. President Kevin then drew the winning ticket for the raffle, its place on the agenda being moved up so that it would not be forgotten. Bob Buettner was the lucky winner.

Everyone's contribution to the Sgt. At Arms fund was covered by President Kevin. Of note was District Governor Elect Marc Glass, once again crowing about the Eagles Super Bowl victory. Steve Jacoby asked him how he felt about the creaming they took at the hands of the Patriots last week. If you ask me, Marc's response that pre-season doesn't count was a little weak.

Club Projects Work In Progress

Some updates were discussed. The board is contemplating moving the evening meeting location back to the Ridge. Feedback is requested. They will be deciding at next month's meeting. Past President Bill Saunders gave an update on the golf tournament. Please get your money in for your foursomes, and drop off raffle items with Marc Glass. Everyone in the club is expected to participate in some fashion, whether that be by playing, monitoring a hole, or helping with any of the other many tasks that go into executing on the club's largest fund raiser.

We are in need of both a President-Elect and a Sgt At Arms. Lionel Lessard, the current Sgt At Arms, has had to take a step back due to family obligations and we need someone to take the reins there. President Kevin passed out copies of who has signed up for which committees. There are several that do not have Chairs designated. If you are on one of those, please get together with your fellow members and elect a Chair.

President Kevin called for suggestions for service projects. We are planning to continue with Koats for Kids, Marathon Water Station, Christmas Shopping, Bell Ringing, Golf Tournament, Raffle and Habitat for Humanity. Steve Jacoby suggested that we sponsor backpacks or other school supplies for East Hartford students, as we had done in the past. Dick McCarthy and President Kevin will be following up with the Social Services people at Town Hall.

Anwar Hossain suggested that we schedule a day or two to help sort food for FoodShare. Many companies and other groups spend a day helping this great organization. Steve Jacoby also suggested that we gather toiletries for the Women in Crisis / Homeless Shelter. They are always in need of things like soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, etc. Asking your dentist for extra samples when you go for your regular appointment is a great way to get some extra items.

Bob Buettner announced that the Holiday Party will be Dec 5 at the Galleria.

Until next time -- Wes
