The sun did not shine. It was too wet to……..  So, we………………..  All that cold, cold, wet day. OK, Anwar don’t get carried away. Well, I don’t need to remind the 17 Rotarians plus two guests about the weather today. President Bob’s strike on the bell brought us to our feet to sing the Rotary Song followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Dan Larson, our never-lost-for-words Rotarian delivered an invocation about the change of season, blessing our friendship and wishing Yom Kippur.
Brownies in the box, cookies on the table

Our march to the buffet table was orderly, or do I want to say at a glacial pace. How can it be anything else? At our ages, we get smart about our movements. Box lunch consisted of assorted sandwiches, packaged chips and a robust square of chocolate brownies. Hot/cold drinks and cookies were self-serve in the Meeting Room. However, Ned Lynch carried on his recently established protocol of serving cookies to our tables. Thanks Ned.

Jack Sayre, our SAA had a decent day of collecting money considering the low attendance. Marc Glass, although absent, had left a dollar for the never-ending remembrance of the Eagles. President Bob paid for his granddaughter’s 16th Birthday, who is eyeing one of the family cars. Bob Wood was thankful the Red Sox did not lose this week. Jack was not sure why Bill Saunders paid, nor was Bill. Happy Jack Martin paid for leaving early but decided to stay a bit longer. Yours truly paid for Bob Wood filling in to do the High Gear last week while he was enjoying Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks. Ned felt great that the Patriots and Bruins were undefeated. Dan Larson boasted about his golf score as part of the Goodwin College wining team last week. The various levels of murmurs among the company present conveyed a different message. Our President forgot to ring the bell, and Jack reminded him that the fine was supposed to be not the dollar that he paid. Laura Floyd’s favorite team, Ohio State, won.

President Bob introduced Randi Saboski, Asst. DG, and Ceil Collins introduced her sister from Texas, Lucile Clarkson. Our singing duo, Art Bradbury and George Schoen led a rousing Welcome Song.

Water bottles all weekend

ADG Randi fills us in on district events

Randi Saboski, our Assistant District Governor, enlightened us about the various upcoming district events. She encouraged us to buy a table at the Foundation Dinner since our own Jim Watts will be honored there. She also highlighted the benefit of attending the Rotary Leadership Institute on Saturday, November 9, especially for new members. Finally, she gave us details about the new program Rotary-in-Motion sponsored by three clubs including us.

Signing off until next week, yours truly, Anwar Hossain.
