Monday's weather was beautiful for the Annual Golf Tournament. There was a great turnout, with 80 golfers participating We had plenty of volunteers also, with both Rotarians and their better halves giving their time and effort to make this a success. Thanks to everyone that contributed. Initial indications are that we raised almost $20,000 for the club's charitable fund. Special thanks go out to George Schoen and Bill Saunders for their leadership of the Golf Committee, along with all the members that helped to organize the event.

Golf Tournament a Great Success
Festivities commenced at 10:30 when registration opened. Thanks to the generosity of our members, and Bill Saunders gentle encouragement, there were plenty of choices on which for people to put their raffle tickets to use. There was also a putting contest and a buffet lunch served before everyone tee-ed off at 12:30. Golf proper was followed by an excellent dinner of filet mignon, potato and green beans. Dan Larson did his usual bang up job as master of ceremonies. Special thanks goes out to Tracy Liner who won the 50-50 Raffle, and then donated her half back to the club!
Wednesday's Expanded Lunch Selection

The weekly meeting on Wednesday saw us gathering at the Ridge. Partly sunny as we started but the clouds were rolling in as we broke up. President Kevin rang the bell and we all sang the Rotary song, and pledged allegiance. Art Bradbury gave the invocation, and we all proceeded to the buffet table. Must have been leftovers from some other function as there was quite the selection, mostly good, rice not so much. We could choose from clumpy rice, bowties pasta, meatballs, ham slices, sausage and peppers, dinner rolls, garlic bread, and of course, salad. Dessert was either cookies or pound cake.

President Kevin started off the meeting where we learned that Alex Wisz got married last week, in Bermuda on the beach. Congrats Alex! Neal Cunningham announced that the Water Station registration is open. You can send him an email if you would like to participate, and he will send you back a link to where you can sign up. If you would like him to get that done for you, just let him know. The Hartford Marathon is taking place on Oct 14th, and East Hartford Rotary has been hosting a water station for the runners for 25 years now. Koats for Kids has 79 people signed up for coats so far. There will be another signup scheduled sometime this week, so hopefully we can raise that number a bit. We usually supply around 100 coats every year.

Anwar Hossain is coordinating a day for the club to volunteer sorting food for Foodshare. This will be taking place on Monday, Oct 15 from 12:30 to 3:30. Please let him know if you would like to participate. Mayor and fellow Rotarian Marcia Leclerc  is asking if the club would like to participate in development of the new senior center. President Kevin will be meeting with her assistant to get more detail. The CT River Valley Chamber of Commerce has asked the club if they can use our ducks for a fundraiser they are planning for next year. We have told them that would be fine and we would appreciate a $500 contribution to our charitable fund.

Announcements and Upcoming Events
Dick McCarthy performed Sgt at Arms duties today. His report included club anniversaries for Dan Russell (45 years) and Wes Willett (3 years). George Schoen celebrated his birthday. Since he has heard us sing before, he said it was not necessary to hear us again. Many donations were made in honor of the good job George Schoen and Bill Saunders did organizing the golf committee and tournament. These included Bob Wood, Bob Buettner, Ned Lynch, and Dick McCarthy. Bill Saunders donated to thank everyone for their support of the tournament. President Kevin donated to celebrate the Yankee's 3 run homer to win their last game. Ned Lynch also had a baseball related donation. Something about the Red Sox that didn't make a lot of sense.

Jim Watts is accepting nominations for Paul Harris. Nomination forms are under Club Documents on our web site (https://easthartfordrotary.org/)

Board of Directors meeting will be next Tuesday, September 25 at President Kevin's house. 38 Bancroft Rd, East Hartford. Please let him know ahead of time of you wish to attend and raise any new business.

Not sure what Jack Martin is making up for, but he stuffed the ballot box for the Flower Raffle and is bringing them home for his bride.

Ceil did not, as expected, pull Wes' 50-50 raffle ticket. Instead Bob Buettner is going home with the take for that.

Next Meeting is at Goodwin College next Wednesday evening. Until then, your scribe, Wes Willett
